A shopaholic in Asia

Sorry for the not-very-regular posts lately!  I am travelling in Asia on a super fantastic holiday!  Yippee!!

The extremely dangerous thing about travelling in Southeast Asia isn’t snakes, malaria, or catching pneumonia after being caught in a torrential downpour during the rainy season.  Probably the MOST dangerous thing (a close second after catching sickness from uncleanly food stalls) is the shopping!

There are tons of really cute things to buy here!  From handicrafts, fresh fruit, local delicacies, inexpensive clothes, and trashy souvenirs, to just about anything else you could think of!  So for your reading enjoyment, I will list the top finds on my trip so far:

  1. Wooden elephant bought on the side of the road in Melaka
  2. 2 pairs of floopy pants in KL (one black and one grey – both way better suited for the climate here than the pants I brought from Canada)
  3. Mini chess set made from wooden pins
  4. A hugely giant and unbelievably sweet green mango from a roadside stall on the way to Melaka
  5. Ice cream sandwich in Singapore – it was a w e s o m e
  6. Durian-flavoured chocolates!  Oh, it’s so good – open your minds people!
  7. 2 Little Miss tanktops with funky retro prints on them.  Awww!  Little Miss…  =)

… and the scary thing is:  I am not even listing everything I bought!  And even scarier:  I am only halfway through the trip!!!  Still to come is the shopper’s paradise that is Hong Kong.  At an exchange rate of roughly 7:1, I may very well need to purchase an additional piece of luggage to cart back all my swag!  Oh Asian holiday, will you be the death of my savings account?!  Will the exchange rate remain favourable??  Will I be able to pack all this stuff into a suitcase and backpack????

Duh duh DUH!!!
